A DIY Wedding at Morden Hall

While we’re not suggesting you make every wedding decoration yourself, it can be fun to add a few creative details to your special day. Take on just one or two projects and think about how you can add elements of personalisation for a truly bespoke end result. We hope you’re inspired by these details from some of the beautiful weddings at Morden Hall.

Linda and Adam used elegant calligraphy on their wedding day, framing an order of service and presenting beautiful place cards on the tables.

Photographs add personalisation and decoration to your special day and are relatively simple to display. We love Auburn and Olly’s fireplace garland in the Oak room at Morden Hall.

Embracing a theme doesn’t need to be complicated, and simple touches can make all the difference. If you have a passion for literature, for example, why not name each table after a book or author and create signage named after mythical places.

Maps are often used in seating plans or signage and are a great way of highlighting your travels together as a couple. This world map made a fantastic seating plan with each table named after a city.

This DIY seating plan looks great and really embraces the country vibe. We love the chalkboard, the leaves and the pretty floral decoration at the base.

You might decide to create your own table favours. These pretty shells look lovely and also double up as a place name.

Don’t forget your younger guests – they’re likely to appreciate table gifts even more than the adults!

Confetti is one of the most romantic wedding traditions and something that is easy to put together yourself. Simply fill cones with pretty, dried petals and present in a basket.

Think about how you can create keepsakes from your wedding day. A card box is a lovely idea, enabling guests to leave messages. And, as an alternative to a guest book, why not ask guests to write on the frame of a photograph?

Signage is fun and can either be informative or quirky. We love these quotations on giant boards outside at Morden Hall.

While arranging all your own wedding flowers could be one step too far in terms of last-minute stress…you might create just a few pretty arrangements. These simple designs are beautiful and make a fabulous addition to a mantelpiece.

Small details can make all the difference. We love this hand-made ‘Jenga’ – an unusual alternative to the traditional guest book.

You’re never too old for a sweetie! Create your own sweetie table with jars of favourites. The wedding of Marette and Paul saw a great selection of treats with their own menu!

Consider bringing in a few props for your wedding photographs. Hazel and Michael had giant balloons at their wedding – just the thing for some fabulous photos in the garden.

Other fun props might include silly glasses or hats or even a picture frame with a colourful backdrop.
