A Summer Garden Party Wedding
Auburn and Olly chose Morden Hall for their June wedding. With a delicate colour scheme, beautiful flowers, an abundance of colour and a fabulous afternoon tea, love was truly in the air.
Undecided on whether to marry in London or Lancashire, Auburn and Olly came across their perfect wedding venue in Surrey, just ten minutes from their home.
“Morden Hall is such a beautiful building. We loved the gardens and the surrounding park and the building itself is so elegantly decorated in Georgian style – a lovely backdrop for the whole day.” – Auburn
Design and Décor
Setting a wedding date at the end of June the happy couple were dreaming of a day filled with colour where they could spend much of the day in the glorious garden.
Pastel shades were a natural choice, and Auburn and Olly made many of the decorations themselves, from the images for their invitations to the seating plan, the orders of the day and the chalkboard signage.
We had an Alice in Wonderland garden party for my hen celebration and my dad made these amazing wooden cut outs of the characters. They were so great they had a second outing at the wedding!
Flowers also featured in the decoration, adorning Morden Hall with beautiful blooms.
“They weren’t too styled. I just told our wonderful florist that we wanted everything to look like a wild meadow with lots of colour.” – Auburn
Looking The Part
After dreaming of wearing her grandmother’s wedding dress, Auburn tried it on and burst into tears! The decision was made. With the help of a talented dressmaker, Auburn made some alterations which included adding a pale blue silk underdress to highlight the beautiful lace of the original gown.
“I did the finishing touches myself, adding lace to the sleeves, putting the original lace buttons down the back and making a silk ribbon belt. I also decorated the skirt with a band of silk ribbon work embroidery and beading. My dress was exactly how I imagined it to be and so special to me.” – Auburn
The beautiful bride completed the look, wearing her great-grandmother’s wedding ring on an anklet along with 1940s style peep toe shoes from Rainbow Club.
Auburn’s three bridesmaids looked stunning in their pastel coloured gowns.
“The same dress wouldn’t have suited all three of them so I chose the multiway style and let them each pick their own colour and length.” – Auburn
As for the Groom…
As Auburn works at a tailors on Savile Row, they had a three-piece suit made for Olly. He chose a navy cloth with red shot paisley lining for the jacket and a skull and cross bone lining for the waistcoat.
Wedding Day Details
Following their romantic ceremony in the Willow Suite, drinks and canapés were served in the garden.
A fabulous afternoon tea followed with an array of delicious finger sandwiches, blinis, pastries, scones, fruit tartlets and brownies.
The chocolate brownie was absolutely divine, as was the fruit tart. It was all so good!
As day turned to evening, the newlyweds danced their first dance to ‘Hold My Hand’ by Jess Glynn and a Ceilidh followed to fill the dance floor. The outdoor pizza oven proved a hit, serving four different types of pizza.
The team at Morden Hall were brilliant. We just told them what we wanted and they made it happen. We were both so relaxed because we knew they had everything in hand.
Auburn’s Favourite Moment
“We both agree, the ceremony was our best part of the day. We had everyone we love in the same room at the same time. It was the best 30 minutes of love, tears and laughter and we’ll never forget it.”
“Don’t worry of stress too much about the planning of the day. When it arrives, you’re so busy being happy, none of the material stuff matters.”
If you’re planning a summer wedding, we hope you will also be inspired by the elegant July wedding of Linda and Adam at Morden Hall.
